The Evaluation Of School-Based Violence Prevention Programs: A Meta-Analysis

AUTHORS

Park-Higgerson et al. (2008)

STUDY OBJECTIVE

The researchers carried out a meta-analysis of randomized interventions that assessed the effects of school-based interventions aimed at reducing violent behavior. Of the universe of studies, 36 met the criteria for the meta-analysis.

EXPERIMENTAL INTERVENTION

This is a meta-analysis that pools the experimental data from randomized trials in order to provide a meta-analysis of school-based violence prevention programs.

MAIN RESULTS

1) The study did not find significant effects of the interventions in reducing aggression and violence. 2) It did find that programs that employed a single-approach were more successful than programs that employed a multiple approach that involved parents, peers, and the community.
